About Us
Welcome to Chemamul Boys'
Chemamul Boys’ is a county boarding school located in Belgut sub-county of Kericho county. The school was established in 1968 by the community through Harambee spirit. The local A.I.C church leaders mobilised local community and friends to bring together resources for the success of the school. Initially, the school was a mixed school admitting both boys and girls until the last group of girls left in the year 2013 making it a boys school.
The school was to absorb students from the local community who were not able to join other distant schools. The name Chemamul was adopted from the village name since there was no other secondary school in the area. The school stands on a twelve acre piece of land that was donated by the mother primary school. Most of the students admitted in the initial years were remnants from the village with average marks and could therefore not perform well in K.C.S.E. Over the years the school grew to three classroom streams namely East, West and North albeit with minimal performance that could only get learners to middle level colleges.
In the year 2010 and 2011, Improvement was realised when two and three students respectively managed to get B(+) plus and had a chance to join our public universities. Greater improvement was also seen in 2014 when the school mean score shot to 5.8 up from 4.8 in the preceding year (2013) and also managed to take six students to the university.
The school’s academic performance has been on an upward trend which has necessitated the development of modern structures due to increased enrollment to the current population of 1,200 boys from a paltry 402 learners in 2018. This increment has led to provision of employment to the neighbouring community. Similarly, with the consistent improvement in academic performance most students have been able to transit to institutions of higher learning.
The teaching and learning experiences are supported by a team of 38 teachers; 14 of whom are employed by the Teachers Service Commission and the rest employed by the Board of Management. The teachers’ efforts are complimented by 24 essential staff who have are instrumental in ensuring that a conducive environment is created for the boys’. The school is managed by the constituted Board of Management as per the Basic Education Act and supported by the school principal, Parents’ Association, heads of departments and the student council.
